The small island of Ko Tao in the Gulf of Thailand is one of the most popular places in the world to get a dive certificate. There are around 40 dive shops on the island to choose from, most of which are geared towards beginners. The island's popularity comes from its abundance of easy dive sites just a short distance away. This makes life very easy for students and also keeps the costs down, meaning a dive course is great value for money.
