At Walindi Plantation Resort in Kimbe Bay, they claim that a browse of their guest book reads like a who's who of underwater photography. The reason so many of the top names in the business love this spot so much is the sheer diversity of life and stunning coral gardens. Amazingly, this area can boast 70% of all known Indo-pacific marine species...... which mean more than enough subjects to keep you occupied time and time again.

For wide angle enthusiasts, Sipadan has it all. Large schools of Jacks & Barracuda swirl in the blue, large schools of Bumphead Parrotffish chomp their way around the reef with no heed for nearby photographers and numerous large Green Turtles are encountered on almost every dive. Just a short distance away, the reefs of Mabul & Kapalai give photographers the chance to test their macro skills with a bounty of unusual critters to snap.

The Wakatobi region is in a remote part of Sulawesi with outstanding diving. The area has a multitude of underwater environments to from fringing reefs to walls, sea mounts, atolls & even a barrier reef. There is no shortage of subjects either, with pretty much everything from Sharks to Pygmy Seahorses to find. Bali's eastern coast is a great area for underwater photographers to explore. With great muck-diving, colourful reefs and even a WWII shipwreck, the area has a little bit of everything to enjoy. Seraya & Tulamben are probably the most famous posts. Seraya has shot to fame recently for its superb muck-diving opportunities & rare critters, while Tulamben is home to the Liberty Shipwreck - a WWII wreck lying just a short swim from shore with great wide angle & macro opportunities.

The Similan Islands are considered to be Thailand's top dive spot. Reached primarily by Liveaboard, they have explosivley colourful reefs and some unusual underwater environments that will leave underwater photographers beaming. Most liveaboard trips also take in a few sites to the north of the Similans, where wide angle enthusiasts will revel in the opportunity to dive with Manta Rays & Whalesharks.

Bohol Island, in the Visayas is somewhere underwater photographers will feel very much at home. With a combination of rare critters, great reefs, the Philippines answer to Sipadan and seasonal Schooling Hammerheads, the island has more than enough to keep photographers coming back for more. There is even a reef here teeming with sea snakes for brave photographers looking for something a little special.

If variety is the spice of life, then Milne Bay is truly spicy. The world's original muck-diving spot can still hold its own with Asia's best and the region can also boast pristine reefs, a Manta Ray cleaning station, plenty of shark encounters and even one of the world's most exciting drift-dives. A liveaboard exploring Milne Bay is likely to provide you with so many great images, you may have to take a few more weeks off to go through them.
