The diving in southern Lombok is centred on two regions - Blongas Bay on the south coast and Seketong on the west coast.
The Magnet is possibly the most famous site of southern Lombok. This pinnacle, which rises up from the depths, attracts huge amounts of life, with large schools of Tuna, Barracuda and Mackeral frequently engulfing divers. Numerous species of shark can also be seen here, but the real attraction is the Schooling Hammerheads which regularly visit this spot.
Also in Blongas Bay, The Cathedral is another superb dive site. Similar to The Magnet, the site is also a pinnacle, desceding down to around 50m. Near the base of the pinacle is large cave, which gives the site it's name. Schools of Eagle Rays are sometimes seen here, along wth numerous species of Sharks and pelagic species.
The pinnacles of Gili Sarang offer more exciting diving, but less challenging conditions. Sharks can be seen here, along with numerous species of Ray. For those who enjoy their diving at a more sedate pace, Soft Coral Garden& Boulder city offer fascinating landscapes and stunning corals.
The west coast around Seketong has dive sites to suit both beginners and experienced divers. Gili Rengitt Timur is one of the area's most popular dive sites. Soft corals and feather stars hide a myriad of smaller life, including Ghost Pipefish, while Turtles, Cuttlefish, Blue-spotted Rays and the occasional White-tip can also be seen.
Hadiah Reef, Gili Kura Kura and Sunken Island are enjoyable, easy dive sites with plenty of colourful corals and reef-life, while photographers and macro lovers will find Frogfish, Leaf Scorpionfish, Nudis and more at Gili Rengitt Barat.
Heading south from Seketong, the dive sites become more exposed and challenging, but bring bigger life and some fascinating dive sites. Stairs to Medang has an unusual terraced slope and is a great spot to encounter big rays, while the the imposing landscapes of the Lighthouse, Batu Gendang & Batu Mandi promise more exciting encounters.
There is also some diving around Kuta, on Lombok's south coast.
