Wakatobi is the name for a group of remote islands in South-east Sulawesi that have fantastic diving.
Wakatobi Dive Resort, based just off the main Tomia Island (the ‘To’ from WaKaToBi) is the only dive resort in the area. It is a well established, well run resort in a beautiful setting. Daily trips are made to many of the area’s top dive sites. There are currently around 40 dive sites within a twenty minute boat ride of the resort.
The normal route to Wakatobi is via Bali, which has an international airport in Denpasar. From there the resort offers charter planes which take you as far as Kendari, before taking you by boat to the resort.
For more independent minded souls, it is possible to fly to Makassar in Sulawesi, then take either a plane or very lengthy ferry to Kendari, before arranging local transport to the resort.
The resort has bungalows on the beach of three different standards, all of which are very comfortable and just a stone's throw from great diving & snorkelling.
Aside from diving - relaxing in the remote, tropical island setting and enjoying the scenery is the main activity. It is possible to walk around the island and there is a house reef, so you can dive or snorkel until your heart’s content.
